Unit 7 - DNA
DNA
A nucleic acid found in the nucleus that contains the information about how a living organism will look and function
Chromosome
Made up of DNA and protein
Nitrogen Base
The middle part of the DNA that pairs up (there are 4 of these)
Nucleotide
Nucleic acids are made up of many nucleotides; includes a sugar, a phosphate and a nitrogen base
Gene
The sections of DNA that carry the specific traits - hold the information to build and maintain an organism's cells and pass genetic traits to offspring
Mutation
A change in the DNA sequence of a gene
Replicate
To make a copy; DNA replication is when the DNA is copied
Cell Cycle
Consists of 2 stages; one stage is when the cell grows & the second stage is when the cell divides & reproduces itself
