Unit 7 - DNA

DNA

A nucleic acid found in the nucleus that contains the information about how a living organism will look and function

Chromosome

Made up of DNA and protein

Nitrogen Base

The middle part of the DNA that pairs up (there are 4 of these)

Nucleotide

Nucleic acids are made up of many nucleotides; includes a sugar, a phosphate and a nitrogen base

Gene

The sections of DNA that carry the specific traits - hold the information to build and maintain an organism's cells and pass genetic traits to offspring

Mutation

A change in the DNA sequence of a gene

7.

Replicate

To make a copy; DNA replication is when the DNA is copied

8.

Cell Cycle

Consists of 2 stages; one stage is when the cell grows & the second stage is when the cell divides & reproduces itself
