Important terminology for waves
Vibration
Vibration is a mechanical phenomenon whereby oscillations occur about an equilibrium point.
Pitch
Pitch can be taken as the measure of sound frequency expressed in terms of Hertz. Higher the frequency, higher the pitch.
Amplitude
A measurement of the amount of energy transferred by a wave
Frequency
The number of waves passing a point in a second measured in "Hertz"(where 1 hertz is one wave per second).
Oscillation
The repetitive movement of something between 2 states or position
Wave
A wave is a disturbance in a medium that carries energy without a net movement of particles.
Loudness
The loudness of a sound is a phenomenon caused by the amplitude of the sound wave.
Intensity
The rate at which it transfers energy divided by the area over which the energy is spread.
Wavelength
The distance over which a waves shape repeats.
