Important terms of Sound
Vibration
Repeated back-and-forth motion of a particle when displaced from its original position.
Pitch
Pitch describes how high or low sound is, and depends on the speed of vibration of the object.
Amplitude
Amplitude is a measurement of the amount of energy transferred by a wave.
Frequency
The number of waves that pass a given point in one second.
Oscillation
Oscillation is going back and forth repeatedly between two positions or states.
Wave
The number of waves that pass a point in a certain period of time.
Loudness
Loudness is the measure of the response of the ear to the sound.
Intensity
The amount of energy flowing per unit time through a unit area that is perpendicular to the direction in which the sound waves are travelling.
Wavelength
The distance between two crests.
