What is chemotherapy?

Treatment of infectious diseases or malignancy with drugs that destroy microorganisms or cancer cells with minimal damage to host tissues.

What are antibiotics?

Chemical substances obtained from microorganisms that kill or suppress growth of other microorganisms at low concentrations.

What are bactericidal agents?

Agents that kill or destroy microorganisms, e.g. penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides.

What are bacteriostatic agents?

Agents that inhibit growth and multiplication of microorganisms, e.g. sulphonamides, tetracyclines, chloramphenicol.

What is the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)?

The minimum concentration of an antimicrobial agent that prevents visible growth of a microorganism.
