Probability Distribution
A function that assigns probabilities to each possible outcome of a random variable. (It helps to make a table)
Random Variable
A variable whose value is a numerical outcome of a random phenomenon.
Expected value (mean)
The average value of a random variable, calculated by multiplying each outcome by its probability and summing the results.
Geometric Distribution
A discrete probability distribution describing the number of trials needed to get the first success in a sequence of independent trials.
Binomial Distribution
A discrete probability distribution describing the number of successes in a sequence of independent trials, each with the same probability of success.
Central Limit Theorem
A theorem stating that the sampling distribution of the sample mean will be approximately normal, regardless of the population distribution, as long as the sample size is sufficiently large.
Complement of an Event
the set of all outcomes not defined as successful outcomes for any event
Conditional probability
the probability of an event occurring if it is known that another specific event has already occured.
