Hi Everyone, my name is Ashton Courdle, today i want to talk to you about basketball. it's fun and exciting sport that many people love. lets looking into what makes basketball so great.

First, let's start with a little history. Basketball was invented in 1891 by a man named Dr. James Naismith. James was a teacher looking for a way to keep his students active indoors during the winter. James used a soccer ball and two peach baskets as goals. The game quickly became popular, and it's now played all over the world.

Basketball is played by two teams, each team having 5 players. the main goal is to score points by shooting the ball into the other team's hoop. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. A standard basketball is divided into four quarters, each lasting around 15 minutes per quarters in the professional league/NBA. In college the standard game is divided into 2 halves and each half is 20 minutes. If the game is tied at the end they go into overtime until one of the team wins. Now, lets talk about the facility they play the game in typically.

The court is a rectangular floor with a hoop at each end. the hoop is played at 10 ft high. There are lines on the court that mark different areas, like the three-point line and the free-throw line. scoring is simple. a regular shot inside the three-point line is worth 2 points, a shot from the outside of the three-point line is worth 3 points and free throws are worth 1 point each.

I'm now going to explain each position and its role while playing the game.

1. is the point guard, this player is like the team leader on the court. they handle the ball more than others and also set up the plays.

2. is the shooting guard, this player is usually the best shooter on the team. they typically score points from long distances

3. is the small forward, this player is very versatile and can do a bit of everything from shooting and defending, they are typically the best defender on the court

4. is the power forward, this player is strong and plays near the basket, helping with rebounds and defense.

5. is the center, this is usually the tallest player on the court, most centers play near the basket to block shots and grab rebounds.
