Dextrose (D50, D25, D10)

Indications:

Altered level of consciousness secondary to hypoglycemia.

Diazepam (Valium)

Indications:

  • Status Seizure
  • Acute anxiety states
  • Analgesia for medical procedures (fracture reduction, cardioversion)
  • Delirium tremens

Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (Benadryl)

Indications:

  • Symptomatic relief of allergies, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis acute dystonic reactions (phenothiazines).
  • Blood administration reactions.

Epinephrine (1:1000, 1:10,000)

Indications:

  • Cardiac arrest, asystole, PEA, VF unresponsive to initial defib.
  • Severe bronchospasm, asthma, bronchiolitis.
    Anaphylaxis, acute allergic reactions.

Fentanyl citrate (Sublimaze)

Indications for IV:

Analgesic action of short duration

  • During the anesthetic periods RSI premedication, induction and maintenance.
  • Narcotic analgesic supplement in general or regional anesthesia.

Glucagon

Indications:

  • Altered level of consciousness when hypoglycemia is suspected.
  • May be used as inotropic agent in beta-blocker overdose.

Hydrocortisone sodium succinate (Cortef, Solu-Cortef)

Indications:

  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Croup
  • Adrenal Insufficiency

Hydroxocobalamin (Vitamin B 12)

Indications:

Treatment of known or suspected cyanide poisoning.

Ketamine (Ketalar)

Indications:

  • Excited delirium
  • Pain management
  • Procedural sedation

Lorazepam (Ativan)

Indications:

  • Initial control of status epilepticus or severe recurrent seizures.
  • Severe anxiety.
  • Sedation.

Methylprednisolone sodium succinate (Solu-Medrol)

Indications:

  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Croup
  • Adrenal Insufficiency

Midazolam (Versed)

Indications:

Status Seizure

Sedation, Anxiolysis prior to:

  • Oral or nasal intubation
  • Synchronized cardioversion

Naloxone (Narcan)

Indications:

Respiratory Depression Secondary to Opiate overdose.

Complete or partial reversal of CNS and respiratory depression induced by opioids.

Narcotic Agonists

  • Morphine, heroin, hydromorphone (Dilaudid), methadone.
  • Meperidine (Demerol), Paregoric, Fentanyl (Sublimase).
  • Oxycodone (Percodan), codeine, propoxyphene (Darvon).

Narcotic Agonist and Antagonist

  • Butorphanol (Stadol).
  • Pentazocine (Talwin).
    Nalbuphine (Nubain).

Ondansetron (Zofran)

Indications:

Treatment and prevention of nausea/vomiting.

Pralidoxime chloride (2-PAM, Protopam)

Indications:

As an antidote in the treatment of poisoning by organophosphate pesticides and chemicals.

In the pre-hospital arena, is used when atropine is or has become ineffective in management of organophosphate poisoning.

Tranexamic acid (TXA)

Indications:

Blunt or penetrating trauma less than 3 hours from MOI, with hemodynamic compromise, bleeding.
